A new era for Doctor Strange looks good! Review by Ryan
-
Having never read a single Doctor Strange comic in my life, I was rather hesitant when I picked this up. Doctor Strange apparently died during Secret Wars II and now he's got an eyepatch, and is hiding his identity?? The first two issues were a bit of fun, as Dormammu takes over Strange's body, and the good doctor must do battle against his nemesis for the fate of the Earth. It's a slightly weird start, especially as the hero travels to my home country, Wales, and battles a dragon for some reason.
The series really picks up after this, with the 'Faust Gambit' story a real treat, and the 'Acts of Vengeance' tie-ins an interesting match up, as Strange takes on the Hobgoblin, Enchantress and the Executioner, and Arkon. The backup stories, which provided lore on the various dark threats the Earth faces, are a nice touch, and I'm glad they kept that in.
This volume, despite the numerous references it makes to previous Doctor Strange adventures, is an excellent start for new fans, and won't disappoint. (Posted on 04/02/2021)
