The greatest cosmic comic of the 21st century Review by Ryan

What can I say about Annihilation? It single-handedly brought the cosmic side of Marvel back into the twenty-first century with an incredible opening act, that's often been imitated by the company several times since. The opening four-issue Drax prologue is a fun enough story, as the titular 'hero' crashes on Earth alongside several alien criminals, and must save a small Alaskan town from destruction. The Annihilation Prologue issue is incredible, and lays the ground for the remaining issues. Action and intrigue create a compelling story, and the criminally underused Annihilus takes centre stage, with the Mad Titan Thanos drifting in the background. Having never read a single Nova comic before, I was pleasantly surprised with Nova's tie-in issues, and since then he has become one of my favourite Marvel heroes. Silver Surfer, Marvel's original cosmic hero, takes the fight to the Annihilation wave, and joins forces with some friends in a fun few issues. The third tie-in, featuring the Super Skrull, is probably the only thing I wasn't a fan of in this volume, but that's just a minor criticism. An excellent read! (Posted on 18/04/2021)
