Taking up the creations of Geoff Johns is not always an easy task. Sam Humphries had some Marvel output but they weren't particularly noteworthy. But on his move to DC for Rebirth, the guy is clearly putting in a lot of effort because Green Lanterns is one of the gems of Rebirth. An earthbound Green Lantern title isn't usually the best direction, but this title is an exception to that. This is about "Character" first and foremost. Lantern Simon Baz is getting his dues after being supporting cast for the last couple years, developing his unique power-set to push the Green ring further than ever before. The main attraction in this title is the journey of Jessica Cruz, a Lantern who is quickly becoming one of the most interesting DC heroes of this decade. After wielding the Earth 3 Power Ring, Jessica finally becomes a GL, but she's not particularly good at overcoming great fear. Most Lanterns are fully formed, gaining their rings because of their willpower. What we are seeing here, is someone who is developing their willpower from the ground up and it's a really great premise. Buy this comic because you will really enjoy Jessica. This also features the Red Lanterns, one of my favourite super teams, including some backstory for Lantern Bleez, who is one of my favourite characters. (Posted on 22/05/2017)
