Spencer's slow start continues Review by Ryan

So far, Nick Spencer's run hasn't really done that much wrong. He's a skilled enough writer, he's creating plenty of intrigue around new villain Kindred, and he's got Peter back together with Mary Jane. On the other hand, nothing incredible has happened yet. This volume is unfortunately no different, as Spidey is thrown into an adventure with the Black Cat (who constantly switches between being good and bad every time I see her). However, before this Peter has to spend some time with his new roommate, Boomerang. This is probably my favourite part of the run so far. Having written the highly praised Superior Foes of Spider-Man (2013-4), Spencer's decision to bring Boomerang in as a supporting character is a good one, a very welcome one in fact! He adds some character and comedy to a supporting cast that is severely lacking (looking at you, Robbie Robertson).
Another average installment, but there's certainly some things to look forward to. (Posted on 19/02/2021)
